My first computer didn’t run Windows. It was an IBM PC 5150 my dad used for work. For a while my whole relationship with it was typing a command, getting “Bad command or file name,” and trying again.
Gaming turned that curiosity into love. Building my own PC, and gaming over dial-up, hooked me. That feeling never left: speccing a Nutanix HCI node still feels like building a gaming rig, and racing to patch a zero-day has the same pull it always did.
Before servers, there was clay. I grew up in the family’s ceramics factory and studied industrial engineering: formulating clay bodies, chasing defects, learning Six Sigma. The first database I built tracked them. Same job; different substrate.
Thirty-five years later I’m still at a command line, now PowerShell, Cisco IOS, or Claude Code. Today that’s the infrastructure behind Econolite’s 20+ sites across the US, Canada, and Mexico: data center, cloud, network, security, backups, and DR.
What I do
I’m a Senior IT Infrastructure Architect at Econolite.
- Own hybrid cloud, networking, security, and business continuity for 20+ sites across three countries.
- Built core infrastructure from the ground up: Cato SD-WAN across every site, Rubrik enterprise backup, and a Nutanix hyperconverged migration, each with vendor professional services.
- Took Microsoft Secure Score from below the industry average to about 21 points above peers, through the Microsoft Defender stack, Conditional Access and Entra ID, and an audit-first Attack Surface Reduction rollout across 1,500+ endpoints.
- Architected backup and DR: a tiered SLA model for 225+ VMs and continuous replication to an off-site DR provider.
- Strengthened identity: a three-tier privileged-access model, cleanup of 80+ stale Entra ID app identities, and moving Group Policy into Intune.
- Led platform moves: Mimecast to Microsoft Defender for Office 365, 8x8 to Microsoft Teams Phone, and began moving on-prem SharePoint to SharePoint Online.
- Write Python and PowerShell against Microsoft Graph, Rubrik, vCenter, and NetBox APIs, including an internal platform the team queries in plain language.
How I work
Audit before enforce. Least privilege. Document things so the next person isn’t stuck. Often that next person is me, months later.
